Plan set

Plan Set Requirements
  • Carbon monoxide alarms required in dwellings with attached garages or fuel-burning appliances when permitted work exceeds $1,000.
  • Install listed CO alarms outside sleeping areas and on every level, including basements.
  • Combined smoke/CO alarms permitted.
  • Alarms must be hardwired, unless wall/ceiling finishes are not removed or attic access is unavailable (battery-only permitted).
  • Show alarm locations on plans. (CRC R315)
  • Smoke detectors required for permitted work exceeding $1,000; battery-powered acceptable. (CRC R314.2.2)

Include building data on title sheet:

  • Construction type (typically VB)
  • Occupancy (R-3 / U)
  • Number of stories
  • Sprinklered or non-sprinklered

Cover Page
  • Square footage of array. Include the existing array, if applicable
  • Percentage of roof covers by the arrays. Include the existing array, if applicable
  • Number of stories
  • Wind and seismic design criteria, specify the wind speed and exposure category.
Cover Page Notes

All Jobs [the installer will be installing the system. // Smoke alarms shall be installed in each bedroom, outside and in the immediate vicinity of the sleeping rooms, and on each level and carbon monoxide alarms outside in the immediate vicinity of the bedrooms, on each level including basements, and where a fuel burning appliance is located within a bedroom or its attached bathroom. They shall be hardwired and interconnected.]

Site Notes

All Jobs [THE CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDE A WRITTEN LETTER TO THE BUILDING INSPECTOR STATING THAT ALL INACCESSIBLE STRUCTURAL CONNECTIONS HAVE BEEN INSTALLED IN CONFORMANCE WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF THE APPROVED PLANS // New electrical shall be located at least three (3) feet from gas meter or gas shut-off valves]

Roof Plan
  • Roof access points: Roof access points shall be located in areas that do not require the placement of ground ladders over openings such as windows or doors and located at strong points of building construction in locations where the access point does not conflict with overhead obstructions such as tree limbs, wires or signs. Please show the required second ladder access points and fire pathways on the roof plan. Two paths are required per 605.11.1.2.1 of the current California Fire Code
  • Indicate the dimensions of the standoffs on both horizontal and vertical plane. Existing Systems
  • For buildings that have PV systems with both rapid shutdown types or a PV system with a rapid shutdown type and an existing PV system with no rapid shutdown, a detailed plan view diagram of the roof shall be provided showing each different PV system and a dotted line around areas that remain energized after the rapid shutdown switch is operated
Electrical Diagram
  • 120% busbar rule permitted per CEC 705.12(B)(2)(3)(d)
  • All junction boxes labeled NEMA 3R
  • Voltage drop calculations required for all DC and AC circuits
  • DC ground-fault protection required for grounded arrays per CEC 690.41(B)
  • Show maximum PV system voltage calculations per CEC 690.7
  • PV breaker location: opposite end of busbar from main breaker
  • Show AIC ratings for main and PV breakers (must meet or exceed available fault current) per CEC 690.13(E)

GMAS / Meter-Side Tap Requirements (If Applicable)

  • OCPD located 2-3 ft from meter panel
  • Single, visible-open, lockable fused AC disconnect adjacent to meter
  • Continuous conduit only (no couplings, splices, or junction boxes)
  • No rigid metal, PVC, or flexible conduit permitted
  • No junction box, termination, or splice enclosure between fused disconnect and MSA (Marwell Solar Adapter)

Main Panel / Service Notes

  • Either:
  • Note that service conductor size/type is utility-determined, or
  • Confirm conductors and terminals rated for 90°C
  • Clarify existing grounding electrode conductor size at main disconnect

Surge Protection Requirement

  • Surge Protection Devices (SPD) are required for services supplying single-family dwelling units.
  • Provide Type 1 or Type 2 SPD per CEC 230.67.
  • Show on the electrical line diagram and attach manufacturer data sheet.
Electrical Diagram Notes

All jobs [The GEC shall be sized per CEC 250.66 // New electrical shall be located at least 3 feet from gas meter or gas shut-off valves // The wire size and type of the service feeding conductor for the main service panel shall be determined by the utility provider]

Label Page

All Jobs:

  • Required placard: "CAUTION: MULTIPLE SOURCES OF POWER"

Existing Systems:

  • Clarify the rapid shutdown types for both existing and the new PV modules. Are they different types? If yes, a line between two different systems shall be shown on placard. Please demonstrate compliance to CEC 690.56(C)(1).
