Ground Mount Design Requirements

  • Impervious Surface Schedule - Required for all ground mount jobs. Show all surfaces that block stormwater absorption (buildings, pavement, walkways, patios, gravel, decks, etc.).
  • NJDEP Requirements - If NJDEP applies, a signed and notarized ā€œRegulation Areas Release/Indemnificationā€ is required. (Confirm foundation type if concrete is restricted.)
  • Zoning Submission - Provide a property survey that shows: Setbacks, Lot coverage, Height of solar panels
  • Required buffer: continuous single row of evergreen landscaping, 6 ft tall at planting, around array and equipment.

Array Rules

  • Max height: 5 ft.
  • Evergreen buffer required (6 ft at planting, zoning officer approval).
  • Cannot occupy minimum side yard setback of principal structure.
  • Individual solar-powered light fixtures with their own panel are allowed without a zoning permit.

  • Impervious Surface - Any structure/surface preventing stormwater absorption (e.g., concrete, gravel, stone, decks, patios, pavers, roads, etc.).
  • Improved Lot Coverage - Any area of a lot covered by impervious surfaces (buildings, driveways, sidewalks, pools, patios, etc.).
