Roof Pathways requirement:
- Buildings must have at least two roof pathways, each on separate roof planes, running from the lowest edge to the ridge. Each pathway must be at least 36 inches (914 mm) wide.
- At least one pathway must be on the street or driveway side of the roof.
- For roofs with solar panels (photovoltaic arrays), at least one 36-inch-wide pathway must run from the lowest roof edge to the ridge. This can be:
- On the same roof plane as the panels,
- On an adjacent roof plane, or
- Straddling the same and adjacent planes.
- Pathways must be strong enough to support firefighters.
- Pathways should avoid obstructions such as vent pipes, conduit, or equipment.
