Net Excess Generation Notes

Under REU's Zero Net Energy Service, your electric service will be billed monthly as the net of the charge at the applicable retail rate for the residential or commercial service for energy consumed, and the credit applied (based on the current value of solar) for any surplus energy transmitted to the grid.

Surplus energy transmitted occurs when on-site generation exceeds on-site consumption and energy is transmitted to the grid (real-time customer energy generation exceeds real-time customer energy consumption). When customer on-site generation is identical to their on-site consumption, nothing is charged or credited. When the customer on-site generation does not meet their on-site consumption, the customer is charged at the applicable full retail rate.

Site Plan Reqs

The Generator Disconnect Nameplate is to be mounted to the AC disconnect which must be located within 10 feet and within sight of, REU’s electric utility meter.

SLD Reqs

** REU limits the size of a “Net Generation Solar PV Plant” to 1kW DC (kilowatt Direct Current) for every 1,752 kWh’s (kilowatt-hours) of onsite consumption from the previous 12 months. For example, annual on-site consumption of 12,000 kWh would allow for a 6.85 kW DC photovoltaic system to be installed. The average residential solar PV system size in Redding is 7.75 kW

** System size is 10 kW AC CEC rating or less.

Electric Service Reqs

Everything installed must match plans.

No more than four photovoltaic module strings are connected to each Maximum PowerPoint Tracking (MPPT) input where source circuit fusing is included in the inverter

1. No more than two strings per MPPT input where source circuit fusing is not included

2. Fuses (if needed) are rated to the series fuse rating of the PV module

3. No more than one non-inverter-integrated DC combiner is utilized per inverter

4. For central inverter systems: No more than two inverters are utilized.

5. The PV system is interconnected to a single-phase AC service panel of nominal 120/220 Vac with a bus bar rating of 225 A or less.

6. The PV system is connected to the load side of the utility distribution equipment.

Install Reqs

The Generator Disconnect Nameplate **is to be mounted to the AC disconnect which must be located within 10 feet, and within sight of, REU’s electric utility meter**.

Compiled from public records, 2026. Tariffs and interconnection rules change; verify with REU - Redding Electric Utility before you rely on this. The useful move: if an installer says you need a main panel upgrade, ask how these tap and interconnection policies were considered first.
