Plans & docs

Site Plan Reqs

Battery Projects

  • INCLUDE NOTE THAT INDICATES THE MODE OF OPERATION FOR THE BATTERY, (backup, solar self-consumption, etc.).
  • Battery must have a readily accessible disconnect (AC or DC, depending on system type)
  • If batteries are installed in the garage, a heat / smoke detector is required to be installed above the batteries. This must be shown on the site plan.
  • Unable to use Tesla Backup Switch on meter-gangs / multimeter services.
SLD Reqs

All Jobs

  • INCLUDE NOTE THAT INDICATES THE MODE OF OPERATION FOR THE BATTERY, (backup, solar self-consumption, etc.)
  • Single Line Diagram to reflect Phase, voltage, and ampacity for the Utility Service Panel.

Tesla BUS

  • Not approved on multi-meter panels.

Over 10kW

  • CALL OUT the Short Circuit Interrupting Rating (SCIR)

HOT BUS, NO MB

  • If no main breaker is present (e.g. hot bus), provide the rating of each circuit breaker in the MSP. "To Other Loads" is insufficient.
Placards

Battery Projects

  • Battery must be shown on the placard and labeled “Battery,” not the manufacturer name. “Tesla” or “SolarEdge” will be rejected.
  • For Powerwall 3, the placard must specify 'BATTERY/INVERTER' as it is a combined unit.

Existing Systems

  • The placard must include both systems, as the existing (E) placard will be removed.

All Jobs

  • The disconnect placard must state “PV system disconnect for utility operation.” (If applicable)

Compiled from public records, 2026. Tariffs and interconnection rules change; verify with SDG&E - San Diego Gas and Electric before you rely on this. The useful move: if an installer says you need a main panel upgrade, ask how these tap and interconnection policies were considered first.
