System Offset Notes

For customer-owned distributed energy systems, allowable solar generation sizing is determined by compliance with either of these two requirements:

  • Proposed PV system generating capacity is less than 12 kW-DC, or
  • Intended renewable energy offset is less than 200% of the customer’s total annual electric use at the time of interconnection application.

Systems that are not owned by the customer will be limited to an intended renewable energy offset of less than 120%.

Site Plan Reqs
  • Site plans and diagrams showing the physical layout of the Generating Facility and the location of associated structures and infrastructure such as buildings, streets, driveways, water ways, fences, the customer’s generating equipment and the City’s associated distribution system equipment.
  • Utility require a production estimate for each individual array.
  • show all existing equipment
SLD Reqs
  • Single-line diagram of the facility showing the sizes of all equipment and the system protection planned
  • show all existing equipment
Electric Service Reqs

A Single-line and Three-line drawing showing the electrical relationship and descriptions of the significant electrical components such as the primary switchgear, secondary switchboard, protective relays, transformers, generators, circuit breakers, with operating voltages, capacities, and protective functions of the Generating Facility, the customer’s loads, and the interconnection with the City’s distribution system which is typically the City’s transformer.

Compiled from public records, 2026. Tariffs and interconnection rules change; verify with City of Fort Collins before you rely on this. The useful move: if an installer says you need a main panel upgrade, ask how these tap and interconnection policies were considered first.
