Customers who already have solar installed and received their permission to operate prior to December 31, 2024, will automatically be assigned a retail (‘Legacy’) net metering credit for 15 years (until January 2040).

If third-party owned system (TPO)
- Expected annual production is limited to 120% of the previous year’s energy usage (kWh)
If the customer has no energy usage history (like for new homes or new owners), estimate usage
- The estimate is 6 kilowatt-hours (kWh) per square foot per year.
- This is based on the total finished square footage (including finished basements).
- Square footage is taken from Boulder County records.
- This method can also be used if the home has special electric needs (like electrification upgrades) and the usual system size isn’t enough.
