Net Excess Generation Notes

If your solar PV system produces more energy than you use in a month, the excess kilowatt-hours (kWh) are credited to your Net Meter Bank. Credit stored in the Net Meter Bank can be used for the following month. During the April billing period of each year, the Association shall pay a credit for excess generation to the customer-generator equal to the avoided cost.

LPEA’s current general services energy rate per kWh covers not only energy expenses, but also expenses associated with poles, wires, and other system related items that are still largely needed by net metered services. It is possible that LPEA’s rate structure could change in the future resulting in separate charges for energy and system expenses.

Compiled from public records, 2026. Tariffs and interconnection rules change; verify with LPEA - La Plata Electric Association, Inc. before you rely on this. The useful move: if an installer says you need a main panel upgrade, ask how these tap and interconnection policies were considered first.
