Net Excess Generation Notes

Any member generation in excess of their monthly kWh consumption will accumulate as “banked” kWh credits. During months in which a member’s consumption exceeds the amount generated, available banked kWh credits will be deducted from their account. Once depleted, remaining energy consumption will be billed at the energy rates established by this schedule. Banked energy credits will be available until consumed.

Pushing kW over the rated transformer/secondary/primary equipment at the location is not permitted. As addressed in other questions, upgrades or modifications to KEC equipment that are needed as a result of the solar install are the responsibility of the member and must be paid in full prior to KEC performing any work or approving final interconnection. Installations are intended to be sized and installed for the express purpose of partially or fully supplying the member’s energy requirements at the location being net metered.

Compiled from public records, 2026. Tariffs and interconnection rules change; verify with KEC - Kootenai Electric Cooperative before you rely on this. The useful move: if an installer says you need a main panel upgrade, ask how these tap and interconnection policies were considered first.
