Net Excess Generation Notes

For applications after January 1, 2025, excess generation will be credited to the bill's Supply section. These credits will not expire and will carry over until they are used. When applying for net metering, the applicant will need to choose between two methods:

  • kWh Yes - (kWh Usage Netting): On-site excess generation (including prior carryover kWh) will net from Total kWh in calculating Supply Net Total kWh and Supply Net Billable kWh while the Delivery Net Billable kWh will equal Total kWh.
  • kWh No - (Monetary Value Netting): This method coverts your excess generation into monetary credits based on current pricing. Excess Monetary credits are carried over to the next bill to be applied to the supply section.

Site Plan Reqs
  • Include full name, including initials if required

AC Disconnect:

  • Must be NEMA 3R outdoor rated and mounted near utility meter.
SLD Reqs

All Projects

AC Disconnect

  • Electrically, the switch should be located between the output of the inverter and the Ameren Illinois system. Typically, the switch will be located between the inverter and a circuit breaker or fuse located in the main distribution panel.
  • The switch must have a visibly open gap between the switch contacts, knife-blade type. Circuit breakers are NOT suitable for this purpose.
  • The switch must be able to be locked in the open position.
  • Label AC disconnect as:
  • If its PV project: PV AC disconnect , lockable, properly labeled, and accessible 24/7
  • if its a PV+ ESS project: PV/ESS AC disconnect , lockable, properly labeled, and accessible 24/7

Battery Projects

  • DC Coupled Batteries ONLY. Ameren does not allow AC Coupled batteries (Tesla and SolarEdge are DC coupled, Enphase = AC Coupled)
  • DC disconnect between BUI and energy bank.
  • AC disconnect between inverter and BUI required.
  • Battery Projects with a whole home backup, or Main Panel Insert where we have to cut the conductors, require an MPU with Meter Lever Bypass and a solo main breaker.
Electric Service Reqs

If intercepting the meter for an MBE/MPI/BUI/Or Gateway, the utility will require a lever bypass meter with main breaker (Escalate to ER if these exist)

  1. When showing lever bypass meter on the plans show main breaker in the enclosure as well (please size this breaker accordingly to site conditions).
  2. Example: staff (557489)
  3. IF PERMITS ARE NOT REQUIRED IN THE AHJ, THE ABOVE WILL NOT BE REQUIRED.

IF USING SUMMATION RULE AS POI WE ARE TO

  • Provide clear labeling of all breakers in the MSP on the ELD.
  • This does not apply to the 120% rule per email with inspector

Compiled from public records, 2026. Tariffs and interconnection rules change; verify with Ameren Illinois before you rely on this. The useful move: if an installer says you need a main panel upgrade, ask how these tap and interconnection policies were considered first.
