A qualifying facility having less than 40-kilowatt capacity, the customer shall be billed for the net energy supplied by the utility according to the applicable rate schedule for sales to that class of customer. A customer with a qualifying facility or net metered facility having a capacity below 40 kilowatts that is interconnected to a cooperative electric association or a municipal utility may elect to be compensated for the customer's net input into the utility system in the form of a kilowatt-hour credit on the customer's energy bill carried forward and applied to subsequent energy bills. Any kilowatt-hour credits carried forward by the customer cancel at the end of the calendar year with no additional compensation.

40 kW AC max

Systems over 40 kW will have a 120% offset requirement

For interconnection of a proposed DER to a radial distribution circuit, the aggregated generation, including the proposed DER, on the circuit shall not exceed 15% of the line section annual peak load as most recently measured or 100% of the substation aggregated minimum load. A line section is that portion of an Area EPS Operator’s electric system connected to a customer bounded by automatic sectionalizing devices or the end of the distribution line. The Area EPS Operator may consider 100% of applicable loading (i.e. daytime minimum load for solar), if available, instead of 15% of line section peak load.

Site Plan Reqs

SLD Reqs
  • Applicant name.
  • Application ID.
  • Installer name and contact information.
  • Address where DER system will be installed - must match application address. o Be sure to list the address for the protective interface equipment if the protective interface equipment is located at a different address than the DER system.
  • Correct positions of all equipment, including but not limited to panels, inverter, and DC/AC disconnect. Include distances between equipment, and any labeling found on equipment.

One-line diagram must be signed and stamped by a Professional Engineer licensed in Minnesota if the DER is uncertified greater than 20 kW AC or if certified system is over 250 kW

Compiled from public records, 2026. Tariffs and interconnection rules change; verify with Anoka Municipal Utility before you rely on this. The useful move: if an installer says you need a main panel upgrade, ask how these tap and interconnection policies were considered first.
