Net Excess Generation Notes

"Small Generation 25 kW or less

Service hereunder shall be restricted to the capacity of the member’s generating facilities which may be operated in parallel with the Cooperative’s system. Service necessary to supply the member’s Auxiliary Load when the member’s generating facilities are not operating, shall be billed at the Cooperative’s applicable rate schedule and increased or decreased in accordance with the Wholesale Power Cost Adjustment Rider. Power delivered to the Cooperative under this Rider shall not offset or be substituted for power contracted for or which may be contracted for under any other schedule of the Cooperative.

Will Union Power require a separate meter?

Maybe. Depending on the nature, size, and configuration of the existing facility and the renewable generator, a second meter may be required. Also, the intended use of the generator by the owner may dictate the metering configuration."

Transformer upgrades would be on a case by case basis. I haven’t experienced the need for that yet and I have been working with solar for the last 4 years. Before that I worked in Engineering with Union Power.

SLD Reqs

The one line should show the panels, inverters, disconnects and the lines back to the home panel and feed back to the utility meter. Size of solar system in KW must be shown in AC voltage.

Install Reqs

A manual load-break disconnects switch or safety switch with a clear visible indication of switch position between the Area EPS and the Generator. The switch must have pad lock provisions for locking in the open position. The switch must be visible to, and accessible to Cooperative personnel. The switch must be in close proximity, and visible from, the Member’s point of electrical interconnection with the Cooperative’s Area EPS.

Placards

The switch must be labeled “Generator Disconnect Switch”.

Compiled from public records, 2026. Tariffs and interconnection rules change; verify with Union Power Cooperative before you rely on this. The useful move: if an installer says you need a main panel upgrade, ask how these tap and interconnection policies were considered first.
