Net Excess Generation Notes

The customer-generator will receive a credit for each kilowatt-hour received by the Company up to the total amount of electricity delivered to the Customer during the billing period at the full retail rate consistent with Commission regulations. If a customer- generator supplies more electricity to the Company than the Company delivers to the customer-generator in a given billing period, the excess kilowatt hours shall be carried forward and credited against the customer-generator's usage in subsequent billing periods at the full retail rate. Any excess kilowatt hours will continue to accumulate until the end of the PJM planning period ending May 31 of each year. On an annual basis, the Company will compensate the customer-generator for kilowatt- hours received from the customer-generator in excess of the kilowatt hours delivered by Company to the customer-generator during the preceding year at the "full retail value for all energy produced" consistent with Commission regulations. The customer- generator is responsible for the customer charge, demand charge and other applicable charges under the applicable Rate Schedule.

System Offset Notes
  • Always based on the inverter nameplate rating or max output (whichever is higher), not system size (DC)
  • Lease System - The system generates no more than 110% of the customer's expected annual electricity usage.
  • If the customer owns the solar energy system, the 50kW size limit (residential only) still applies but not the 110% limit.
  • Load Calculation is required if there is no annual usage

Plans & docs

Site Plan Reqs
  • (1) AC Disconnect required at the line of sight from the Utility Meter - If not, PECO needs to approve the location before the installation
  • If the existing meter is located interior, then both Interior Disconnect and Exterior Disconnect with placards are required (A second AC disconnect label is required on the label page, and on the site plan next to each AC disconnect.) Placards should show location of disconnects in relation to the utility meter.
  • For Dual Meter set up, the new 320A and 400A Meter Can are bigger than normal and required to be mounted adjacent to the existing meter socket. If this preference can not be accommodated, Please consult the Company regarding optional locations.
SLD Reqs

Standard Jobs

  • 200A and under Meter Can Rating - Requires a Single Bi-Directional Meter
  • Over 200A Meter Can Rating - Requires a Dual Meter Arrangement (PECO gives $400credit to HO) Be aware that for 200A Underground Service, the incoming wires are 500 kcmil Al which requires a 320A or 400A Meter Can Rating. This means that A Dual Meter required for this design.
  • Single Line Diagram is required to include the following: (See "PECO Final SLD-Conductor Description" in file attached)
  • Show Conductor Length (for all segments from Utility meter to inverter) EXAMPLE (*JBOX TO INVERTER-INVERTER TO DISCONNECT-DISCONNECT TO INTERCONNECTION PT)
  • The SLD to indicate the material type of the EMT conduit (aluminum or steel) on the diagram as follow: MATERIAL TYPE OF CONDUCTORS: CU COPPER MATERIAL TYPE OF THE EMT CONDUIT: STEEL COATED ALUMINUM

Battery Systems:

  • For Powerwalls, indicate the mode of operation on plans
Electric Service Reqs

Point of Interconnection:

Single Meter

  1. Hoffman Tap (Junction Box insert)
  2. Breaker Tie-in in MSP
  3. Line Side Tap

Dual Meter

  1. PECO Tap - Tie-in to the New Meter Can by replacing the Lug to be a double lug (Should not tap into the Existing one). - check the PECO Metering guide for the approved Meter Can and Lugs. [Meter Can U300-0-2/K3L-BL and Lugs K4977-EXT]

The possible denied/Conditional approval options (PECO will provide you with details)

  • Transformer upgrades
  • Service Conductors Upgrade or Pole addition
  • Meter Can Relocation (to be fed from a different transformer)
  • Substation reconfiguration or upgrade - could be really expensive
  • System size/Inverter size decrease
  • Inverter modifications and/or restrictions at 95%
Install Reqs

- PECO will provide a bi-directional meter which is needed for net metering at no charge. - PECO will provide the IN and OUT meters for customers electing a Net Metering option. Customers must provide and install the required meter sockets or metering transformer enclosures to contain the PECO metering equipment. For the residential, two meter option, both sockets must be outdoors, with space for mounting a copy of the source directory required per NEC, Article 705.10, showing location of all electrical sources to the premises. - Most of the PECO locations will not turn off the Power, work while hot. You can fill out a request online but there are long delays and usually, they will just request you do it hot or cut and remake taps. Or just pull out the meter - The Dual Meter - New Meter Can prefer to be installed on the right side of the Old one.

Compiled from public records, 2026. Tariffs and interconnection rules change; verify with PECO Energy Company before you rely on this. The useful move: if an installer says you need a main panel upgrade, ask how these tap and interconnection policies were considered first.
